Functional trajectories during innate spinal cord repair

چکیده

Adult zebrafish are capable of anatomical and functional recovery following severe spinal cord injury. Axon growth, glial bridging adult neurogenesis hallmarks cellular regeneration during repair. However, the correlation between these regenerative processes remains to be elucidated. Whereas majority established metrics measure swim capacity, we hypothesize that gait quality is more directly related neurological health. Here, performed a longitudinal tracking study for 60 individual spanning 8 weeks regeneration. Multiple parameters as well axonal were integrated. We rostral compensation new metric highly correlates with recovery. Tensor component analysis data supports correspondence trajectories outcomes. Moreover, our studies predicted validated subset measured 1 2 post-injury sufficient predict outcomes animals at post-injury. Our findings generated comprehensive correlative database various outputs.

Review Articles Spinal Cord Protection During Thoracoabdominal Aneurysm Repair

one reported series, the 5-year survival rate for patients with spinal cord injury was 44%, whereas it was 62% for those without spinal cord injury.19 Postoperative spinal cord injury is caused by several factors including ischemia, reperfusion injury, and postoperative hemodynamics. Many methods of protecting the spinal cord during thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair have been devised. These incl...

Functional MRI of the thoracic spinal cord during vibration sensation.

PURPOSE To demonstrate that it is possible to acquire accurate functional magnetic resonance images from thoracic spinal cord neurons. MATERIALS AND METHODS The lower thoracic spinal dermatomes (T7-T11) on the right side of the body were mechanically stimulated by vibration for 15 participants. Neuronal responses to vibration sensation were measured in the thoracic spinal cord using a HASTE s...

Acute Severe Autonomic Dysreflexia during Spinal Cord Intramedullary Tumor Resectione

Background & Importance: Acute autonomic system impairment can be dangerous and life-threatening, and a clinician should be aware of its occurrence possibility. According to the anatomy of this system, spinal cord lesions could disturb its function. There are many reports of autonomic dysreflexia in spinal cord i njuries especially spinal cord trauma. Case Presentation: A 28 year-o...

Ready for human spinal cord repair?

We are in an exciting time where, based on successfully established animal models, a partial repair of the damaged human CNS appears to be feasible. A paper in the present issue of Brain (Mackay-Sim et al., 2008) deals with the outcome after transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OEC) in subjects with chronic spinal cord injury. An earlier report described the surgical and safety proce...

Schwann cells for spinal cord repair.

The complex nature of spinal cord injury appears to demand a multifactorial repair strategy. One of the components that will likely be included is an implant that will fill the area of lost nervous tissue and provide a growth substrate for injured axons. Here we will discuss the role of Schwann cells (SCs) in cell-based, surgical repair strategies of the injured adult spinal cord. We will revie...
